June 8: Extensive twisting roads leading 55 kms away from the city to the Kosarteda Dam, Bastar and here, unlike many other dams and water reservoirs, the unique part is that visitors can go right to the top. During the day the drive to Kosarteda offers wonderful views across the undulant landscape of the most aesthetic valleys of Bastar, However, the real spectacle comes as the sun starts to drop. Not only is this place a popular spot to watch greenery and water, but for those who stay later, it offers a glimmering night-time fresco that covers the heavens, made up of millions of white pinpricks scattered in glorious imperfection.
Kosarteda is gaining recognition for being one of the top places in Chhattisgarh for travellers to observe the night sky. Kosarteda is being promoted by Bastar’s District Administration along with the Department of tourism as Bastar’s first Starlight Tourism Destination in a step to promote scientific and adventure tourism. Not only Kosarteda has low levels of light pollution and good cloudless nights that celebrate the region’s ideal sky-gazing conditions but also its wider tourism infrastructure has inspired, to cater specifically to stargazers.
This Starlight Tourism expedition in association with the Unexplored Bastar – a travel startup based on social entrepreneurship model, started from Jagdalpur city with a 55 km road trip through the scenic areas of Bastar to Kosarteda a where the entire area has been transformed by the district administration into an adventure camp wherein the campers were hosted with stargazing sessions using advanced telescopes and astrophotography opportunities for such enthusiasts besides night stay at the camps amid boating and bonfire activities by the Kosarteda Dam is attracting many tourists and adventure enthusiasts from around various cities of India.
Bastar Collector IAS Rajat Bansal told that our motto behind this expedition is to not only facilitate the youth of this region and state but also from the other cities of india as well, so that they may get to know more about this incredible Bastar region and also get acquainted with our bastariya culture.
The Kosarteda summit is indeed a glorious location to see off the end of the day with a good opportunity to reflect on everything we are yet to see and learn the mountain of stars which begins to reveal its full treasures as the night sets in.
