Anand (Gujarat) [India] October 21: Renowned actor and sculptor Mayur Vakani, famous for his role as “Sundar Mama” in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, was recently honored in Savarkundla for his artistic achievements. Beyond his acting career, Vakani has gained recognition as a sculptor, with his latest work being a striking statue of the revered regional figure, Jogidas Bapu Khuman. The statue, which captures the dignity and pride of Jogidas Bapu, is a testament to Vakani’s exceptional talent in the arts.

The unveiling ceremony took place at the Savarkundla Municipal Corporation, led by the esteemed Ramayana scholar Morari Bapu. The event saw a large gathering of notable figures, including Dilipbhai Sanghani, Chairman of IFFCO, MLA Maheshbhai Kaswala, former Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, and former Home Minister Gordhanbhai Zadaphia, among others. Religious leaders like Vijay Bapu of Satadhar and Usha Maiya from Savarkundla were also present, along with community leaders, local council members, and a broad section of the public. The occasion brought together leaders from both BJP and Congress, reflecting widespread appreciation for Vakani’s contribution.

Vakani expressed deep gratitude for being entrusted with the creation of the statue, calling it a “divine coincidence.” He remarked on the historical and spiritual connection between Vajjesing Bapu and Jogidas Bapu, symbolizing the rich heritage of both Savarkundla and Bhavnagar. “It feels like a blessing that after so many generations, I had the honor of sculpting the statue of Jogidas Bapu Khuman, representing Vajjesing Bapu’s legacy. Hail Jogidas Bapu Khuman! Hail Vajjesing Bapu!” Vakani said.

He also reflected on a previous project, a lion family sculpture at Ambaradi Safari Park, which took seven months to complete with the help of a 35-person team. “Whether in acting or sculpting, it’s the artist’s passion that brings the creation to life,” Vakani noted.

The unveiling of the Jogidas Bapu Khuman statue not only commemorated a historical figure but also showcased the depth of Mayur Vakani’s talent, both on screen and as an artist.
